10 WILDEST POLICE CARS IN THE WORLD

What makes a police car a true standout? In our books it has to transcend the concept of speed and demand the eyes and ears of onlookers long after its become that tiny speck on the horizon.

For those of you looking to conduct a road felony this festive season, we do hope that it’s not in the backyard of one of these cars. These are the ‘WTF’ vehicles of law enforcement that will easily outrun you before taking a U-turn to taser you in the face.

Brabus G63 AMG

Why on earth the police would need a $280,000 off-roader is beyond anyone’s – oh wait, Dubai. The police in Dubai own this 700hp utilitarian beast with a tyre shredding 960Nm amongst their other law defending supercars. This particular package comes with the full Brabus appointment: upgraded turbochargers, engine management, Widestar bodykit, 23-inch monoblock lightweight wheels, shift paddles and modified suspension all help this luxury box get to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds.

Ford RS200

Don’t be fooled by it’s quirky cartoonish looks, the Ford RS200 is a formidable rally car from the infamous rally days of Group B. Produced between 1984-1986, only 200 of the 2-litre mid-engined 4WDs made its way to public roads as required by FIA racing homologation rules. This was good news as one of the 444hp rockets eventually ended up in the hands of Britain’s finest. Laugh all you want, it won’t be quite as funny when you see one chasing you down a gravel road sideways.

BMW 428i Coupe

Developed as a campaign project for the Tune it! Safe! car modifying movement, the BMW 428i Coupe serves as the perfect base for hauling in the badasses of Germany. In sheer comfort and style of course. Prepared by German tuning house AC Schnitzer, this car has an upgraded 2-litre turbocharged motor making 216kW and 420Nm – an increase of 36kW and 70Nm from stock which allows it to sprint to 100km/h in 5.7 seconds. Adjustable racing suspension helps to diminish the twisties whilst the outside gets new front and rear spoilers and a rear diffuser.

Ford Falcon GT-F

The Aussies finally have proof that they can mix it with the Europeans when it comes to swift justice. The Ford Falcon GT-F holds the record as ‘Australia’s most powerful police car’ and is a fine example of a vehicle capable of chasing down anything across the country’s expansive highways. Prepared by veteran race car driver Dick Johnson, the GT-F pushes out an insane 800hp from the 5-litre supercharged V8. Big Brembo brakes come mandatory as well as super sticky Dunlop tyres for prime handling in dire situations.

Audi R8 GTR

Another gorgeous addition to the Tune it! Safe! campaign is this Audi R8 GTR prepared for law enforcement by German tuner Abt. With a self-proclaimed title of the “World’s Fastest Patrol Car”, the Audi better have some serious mojo to back it up. And luckily it does. The factory V10 is cranked up to produce 620hp and 550Nm of torque which means that as soon as the siren goes on, the car will rocket from 0-100km/h in just 3.2 seconds before it tops out at 325km/h.

Aston Martin One-77

There are two outcomes to speeding in Dubai: 1] They will unleash this Aston Martin on you or 2] they won’t bother chasing you at all because the car costs $2 million and your infringement is worth 0.0001% of that price tag. The One-77 is, as its named suggests, a limited run vehicle of only 77 samples. The 7.3-litre V12 should also see to it that the officer will have no issues laughing off high speed pursuits. Stopping to refuel mid-chase might be a hassle though.

Lamborghini Huracan

Lamborghini have long had a close relationship with the Italian police force and this fruitful partnership has lead to numerous supercar donations in the past. Their latest donation is the Huracan which replaces the outgoing Gallardo fleet of Polizia cars. A big 5.2 litre V10 helps propel the vehicle whilst on the inside there’s bespoke touches to assist police such as cameras, computers, gun holster, refrigerator and a defibrillator.

Ariel Atom 3.5R

The Ariel Atom 3.5R is the British police’s loopiest and fastest addition to the fleet yet. The two-seat open wheeler would do quite poorly at transporting cones although chasing down crims shouldn’t be an issue. The 3.5R has 350bhp, weighs in at just 612kg, and will get to 100km/h in 2.5 seconds.

Morgan Aeromax

It’s exciting enough to see one on the road let alone one adorned in Germany’s unmistakable police livery. Unfortunately the livery is as far as this story goes as Morgan had mocked up this particular car for a festival to celebrate the company’s centenary of handbuilt sportscars. If the Gestapo still existed today, we’re sure this Aeromax would be their weapon of choice.

Caparo T1

Your eyes are not fooling you – this is actually a police car based on a street-legal racecar by British manufacturer Caparo Vehicle Technologies. With clear underpinnings from Formula One and Le Mans design, the po-po T1 is unfortunately just a safety message initiative. It won’t do much in the way of transporting prisoners either, but the 3.5 litre V8 will see to it that you hit 100km/h in 2.5 seconds with a top speed of 330km/h. Blimey.
